Are you Normal?(I hope not)

Updated: Mar 31

I always feel bad for people who just don’t know what they don’t know…

That what they see everyday as the normal is not what normal really is…

It’s what we have acclimated towards.

So much so that those who do include fitness into their lifestyle are considered abnormal.

There was an unconscious stigma that it was a selfish thing to do. That’s all you hear others – who haven’t prioritized their health – preach.

I didn’t realize when I was younger that fitness would be a vessel for maintaining my ability to “do stuff” as I always say. It was more about how I looked in my t-shirt or on the beach. And it still is to this day.

But there is so much more now.

To start this letter:

Don’t feel bad for wanting to improve your fitness. Feel obligated.

Fitness is...

It is the tool that allows you to fulfill your basic physical needs. It is a necessity for a vibrant life.

Most people reject the need, not want, for fitness and lock themselves into a narrow-minded lifestyle.  They do this because no one has ever explained WHY it is needed...

Starting a fitness journey based on gaining strength, improving endurance and working on your brain (Balance, reflexes and coordination) is the most important thing you can do as you get older.

You are obligated to prioritize your fitness because health – in today’s world – without it you become dependent on others to soon and jeopardize your quality of life.

Higher stages of physical and mental well-being are difficult to achieve without your basic health needs met and meaningful physical activity to focus your attention.

Without the right plan, a coach and the support you need you may get trapped in the default lifestyle of sedentary habits, unhealthy eating, and waking up one day wondering where your vitality went.

Fitness for YOU.

You are being attracted to your healthiest version, you can sense it.

You are just confused or frustrated that attempts to see progress in the past has been derailed by lack of results, complicated advice and routines designed for people who are already at a higher level of fitness.

A big problem:

Most people reject the pursuit of fitness because they can’t see beyond the physical effort.

Someone can start exercising for weight loss, or aesthetics which is how you look but it doesn’t have to remain a superficial pursuit.

They can grow to become committed to the depth of fitness itself. They can study its mechanics, turn it into a lifestyle, and use it as a hobby that builds every other aspect of their active life.

Lesson: superficial fitness goals can birth deep physical and mental well-being.

Someone can start a fitness journey in the pursuit of a beach body, but that same journey can introduce them to the depth of strength, endurance, and mental resilience required to maintain that lifestyle.

They fall in love with that aspect of themselves, and that aspect teaches them about their body.

The pursuit of fitness almost always starts as superficial.

That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing to do.

It may be the only way to expose yourself to the benefits which are far greater than the flex of a bicep.

When you find the intersection of:

  • What allows you to feel strong and energized

  • What you enjoy doing for physical activity

  • What helps other people improve their health

An active life becomes meaningful and full of vitality.

Who gets there?

Most people never reach this stage because they can’t pursue a fitness goal until passion is developed.

This is most commonly referred to as “motivation.”

You don’t start out motivated about fitness. People wait to be "motivated" to do something and that is why they fail, yoyo and stay trapped in the vicious loop.

Motivation is a feeling, an emotion that ebbs and flows like the tide. You cannot wait for this mood to create movement.

Your mood does not create movement. Movement creates your mood.

Once you begin (on the right path) you WILL be in the mood...

You become passionate according to the amount of energy you invest in your health.

All fitness pursuits are physical until a sense of well-being is formed.

Like a relationship, you are attracted by its benefits (95% of the time) and are only then introduced to the depth of its benefits.

Endgame

Your body will fall into chaos as you age  if you do not pursue a what-could-be superficial fitness goal to reverse entropy.

Everything is tending towards disorder. It is breaking down. The body over time begins to lose its lean muscle through a process known as sarcopenia…

If you don’t take on the physical challenge to reverse it, then you face the consequences of that choose in the form of what we now know as “normal.”

This new normal is a generation of people who carry more body fat, are weaker, slower and typically have metabolic syndrome. Not familiar with the term?

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that include excess belly fat, elevated blood sugar, high body fat, elevate cholesterol levels and high triglycerides. If you have any two of them, you have metabolic syndrome.

You aren’t where you want to be physically because you haven’t solved the physical and mental challenges that lead you to understand that you are the only one who can take care of you.

Fitness gives you a way to pursue holistic health.

It exposes you to new physical and mental challenges that demand a new perspective to overcome.

Most people are stuck in the same place as they were 10 years ago physically. They don’t need to read more on fitness, they need to challenge themselves and take that first step and just BEGIN.

Surely if you understand that you are losing muscle mass each year....

And that if you don’t intervene you are headed toward inactivity, a less active life, being able to do less with your family...

And eventually dependence on others because you can’t do basic daily living without assistance....

This should be the nightmare wake up call.

Don’t neglect what's right in front of you.

"You can’t sustain wellness when you neglect your body."

Fitness must become a  tool to remove physical dependencies that make you unhealthy.

Every single individual on this earth has to prioritize their physical health in order to contribute to humanity in the best way they can. And, humanity is only as strong as its weakest link.

Fitness allows you to encounter true physical challenges, overcome them, and pass down habits that improve the health of others.

This is where we can help you. The nutrition, the exercises, that part is easy. We must help you understand the why.

A fitness lifestyle is key to modern-day survival.

How well right now, at this moments could you survive a fall, an attacker or a virus?

The key is to be your absolute strongest so you can be prepared to fight the fight you hope you never have too.

Then, we use physical activity to fulfill our physical needs and create a lifestyle that we enjoy.

My recommendation is still the same as I tell my clients for the last 20 years…

  • Solve the superficial physical challenges in your life (weakness, loss of muscle, balance ect)

  • Become physically resilient (mind, body, diet, and habits)

95% of people’s physical challenges revolve around movement, nutrition, hydration, and rest.

If you can solve those challenges your life improves 10x.

There is enough shallow advice on how to look good, how to lose weight, and various quick fixes you can apply to your physical health.

We need more individuals who are looking for a way you can build the body, improve health, maintain muscle and sustain those results.

The individuals who understand that prescribed step-by-step advice looks different for people out of shape, over 40 or facing prior injuries than the 25 year old fitness influencers showing off how many “burpees” they can do…

The world is desperate for wellness, and that can only be created by following smarter, results based training that builds your body not tears it down….

If you are looking for changes like these, We can talk.

I would love to point you on the right path.

See you next time.
